Congregation Beth Shalom condemns in the strongest terms the slaughter at the two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. People should have the freedom to worship in safety. We send our deepest condolences to the victims and families affected. We stand with the victims and all of the people of New Zealand in this difficult moment.
Below is a note we sent to the Islamic Center of Central Missouri.
To our brothers and sisters of the Islamic Center,
We are shocked and horrified to learn of the events in New Zealand. Even though the heinous slaughter of innocents occurred half a world away, we know that you are grieving. Having recently suffered a similar event in our own community, we understand. We grieve with you as you grieved with us after Pittsburgh. We hope you may find comfort both within your community and in the greater Columbia community. May our prayers for peace be heard by the Holy One.
President, Congregation Beth Shalom
We want to build a community based on inclusiveness, where everyone is welcome, regardless of age, marital status, sexual orientation, a Jew by birth or by choice, or level of religious observance.
Congregation Beth Shalom, or CBS , is comprised of approximately 145 member families from all over mid-Missouri. Located in Columbia, MO, we are one of the few Jewish congregations in the entire region. Although we are associated with the Union of Reform Judaism, we strive to meet the needs of the entire Jewish community. Rabbi Yossi Feintuch leads our spiritual endeavors and serves as a liaison to other religious communities of mid-Missouri. We have active educational programs for both adults and youth, with religious school beginning at the pre-school age and extending through high school. Our efforts at Tikkun Olam remain an important part of our congregational efforts. Please view our calendar for dates of specific events.
