News from the Tikkun Olam Committee

1) At the CBS Hanukkah party we collected about a dozen coats, along with blankets, gloves and scarves, and some toys, which Brent Lowenberg delivered to Refugee and Immigration Services.  The wardrobe donation box is still in the sanctuary. Winter has arrived and we still need donations of warm clothes, etc. for others in our community. Also, thirty pounds of canned food collected at the Hanukkah Party were donated to the Central Pantry of Columbia. Thanks to all who contributed!

2) Thanks to generous donations from our fellow congregants, we completed our annual round of holiday giving to local charities, including Room at the Inn, Loaves and Fishes, the Voluntary Action Committee, True North, and (most local of all) a contribution to Mandana Hakimi’s ongoing efforts to support Afghani refugee families. Both Mandana and our interfaith team, led by Margie Sable, are still active in this work and encourage those who can help to contact them. Thanks to the committee and to Christina Gardner for helping us with the fiscal side of things.

3) Our next Loaves and Fishes dinner will be January 29th. The SignUp Genius list will appear soon.

The 2023 Mah Jongg cards are now available from Dee Dee Strnad for $14 and $15. CBS receives $5 for each card sold, with the proceeds supporting tikkun olam projects.
