The third annual Schlep for CBS is set for Sunday, October 23 at 1:30 pm at Twin Lakes Pavilion. We hope you can join us for this run/walk/roll (5K or 1 mile) fundraiser. Sign up here: https://runsignup.com/Race/MO/Columbia/SchlepforCBS
Our goals are to have fun and support our awesome mid-MO Jewish community. Last year we had 62 Schleppers and we raised over $4,400.
The race this year will be similar to last year’s, including:
Marked Course: Our Schleppers in Columbia will start and end at the Twin Lakes Pavilion after a jaunt through Forum Nature Preserve.
Student Discounts: Only $10 for any student Schlepper – grade school through college!
Fundraising Opportunities: Schleppers will have the option again, if they choose, to raise money beyond their registration fees. Raising money for CBS is as simple as sending out an email to friends and family.
Saturday, October 29th will be a special evening of uplifting Jewish music with singer-songwriter and MU alum Steven Chaitman. Steven brings inspiring, joyful sounds to Jewish groups throughout the US. His vision is to create and strengthen community and engage the next generation of Jewish leaders.
Saturday, October 29:
5 pm – Gina’s Vegan a Go-Go food truck will be at CBS for self-pay dinner
6 pm – Havdalah and concert
Sunday, October 30
9:30 am – Steven sings with religious school students
The concert is free of charge and made possible by generous donations. Online donations here: https://cbsmo.org/fillyoursoul/. Checks payable to CBS with notation for the sacred music fund can be mailed to CBS, 500 W Green Meadows Road, Columbia 65203.
In months with a fifth Sunday, CBS provides a full dinner to those in need through the Loaves & Fishes program. We are serving Sunday, October 30, and we need donations of food items as well as volunteers to set up, serve, and clean up.
Bring food to Wilkes Blvd. Methodist Church, 702 Wilkes Blvd. (back entrance), before 4:15 pm that day. Volunteers setting up/serving/cleaning up should arrive by 4:30 pm. We expect to serve about 150 people, and the need for volunteers to serve is especially critical.
Left: Lily Chen holds a 41-inch Chinese python plant that grew in our interfaith garden. She reports that the plant can be eaten like a squash or a bean.
Right: Deborah Zemke does some hard work in the garden.
The year-to-date harvest is 1,713 lbs; the goal is 2,000 lbs. for the year.
In honor of and with gratitude to all who worked so hard to bring spiritually satisfying Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kipper services to fruition
