On Friday, June 28, at 7 pm we’ll celebrate and thank Rabbi Matt Derrenbacher for his impact and delight-filled religious leadership at CBS. This will be Rabbi Matt’s final Friday night Shabbat service as CBS’s full-time rabbi.

Rabbi Matt will be leading the services via Zoom. Congregants can participate from our sanctuary on Green Meadows or online (click here; password = Shalom).

We wish Rabbi Matt the very best as his rabbinic journey takes him back to his family in Louisville.

Our sign is repaired and freshly painted – thanks to the helpers!

CBS Needs Volunteer Service Leaders

Let’s keep our Shabbat services going through the summer and into the fall.

We need congregants to facilitate a Friday night (7 pm) or Saturday morning (10 am) Shabbat service. Services can be entirely in English or Hebrew/English hybrid.

Emily Fuller and Dan Edidin have provided Friday night and Saturday morning service outlines  for leaders to use as a guide. Click here to view Friday and here to see Saturday. Copies will be on the bimah too. Use all or part of the guide, along with your own readings/prayers.

Be creative! Do it with a friend!

Choose the Reform (Mishkan Tefilah) or Conservative (Sim Shalom) prayerbook to design a service. Pick up a copy of either during Emily’s office hours (T-F, noon – 5 pm).

Click here to sign up. With questions contact Dan (danedidin@gmail.com) or Mary (maxmax@mchsi.com).

CBS needs volunteers to pick up challah loaves at Goldie’s on Friday afternoons and to bring treats for Shabbat onegs.

Sign up to pick up challah here and for Shabbat onegs here.

We appreciate everyone’s help!

We’re almost there – just a few side dishes still needed!

In months with a fifth Sunday, CBS provides a full dinner to fellow Columbians in need through the Loaves & Fishes program. We are serving Sunday, June 30th, and we need donations of food items as well as volunteers to set up, serve, and clean up.

Bring food to the Ashley Street Center, 1509 Ashley Street (use the door with the ramp), at 3:30 pmnote time and venue change! – that day. Volunteers setting up/serving/cleaning up should also arrive by 3:30 pm. We expect to serve about 85 people, and the need for volunteers to serve is especially critical.

Click here for the sign-up list. And thanks!

With questions, please contact Noah at heringmann@missouri.eduor Brent at brentdeelg@gmail.com

The CBS Book Club will meet on August 25th at 3 pm to discuss A Tale of Love and Darkness by Amos Oz. All are welcome.

If you’d like to be added to the Book Club’s distribution list, please email Jean Ispa at ispaj@missouri.edu.

Hot and dry weather is here!

The gardens on either side of the sanctuary doors make up the memorial garden. It takes extra water in the summer to keep them looking good.

We need volunteers to take a turn with the watering. Click
here to sign up for a date.

With questions, click here to contact Tanya Christiansen. And thanks!!

Lunch in the Park returns this summer to the Armory, 701 E Ash (note: not Douglass Park). Volunteers assemble and serve sack lunches to children and are welcome to interact with the kids as well.

CBS volunteers are needed for dates in July. The lunches are served from 12 noon to 1 pm, so volunteers should be at the Armory by 11:45 am and plan on staying no later than 1:15 pm.

Click
here to sign up to help serve the lunches.

With questions, contact Debi Kupferer at 573.239.9574.

We received word this week that Blanche Kaminsky has passed away. We admired her deep devotion to Israel and to Hadassah – and her longevity.

No Columbia services are planned.
