Special Shabbat returns (newly hatched as Second Shabbos)
Beginning on Friday, November 12th, we will once again honor Shabbat on the second Shabbat of the month with a Shabbos bag and a speaker at Kabbalat Shabbat services.
Next Friday the Shabbos bag will include, along with a challah and accoutrements, a pint of chicken soup made with kosher chicken. No matza balls, alas. And if you plan to attend in person, we’ll have a bag ready for you to take home.
All you have to do is sign up by Wednesday, November 10, by emailing Mary at maxmax@mchsi.com, and a Shabbos bag will be awaiting you on Friday either at services or at the farmhouse between 11-1 (special accommodations are quite possible).
Also, at that service on November 12, we will host Peter Stiepleman, who will speak to us about his recent trip to Peru with Be the Change Volunteers. He’ll tell us about “BTCV: Started by a mensch, grown into a minyan, and now a global movement.” The service on the 12th will be conducted by the men of our shul.
We’re working on a slate of special speakers and programs for upcoming Friday night services – stay tuned!
Tikkun Olam
Todah rabah to all who took part in the dinner we prepared for Loaves and Fishes last Sunday, October 31, and helped us keep our commitment to contribute a full dinner every time there is a fifth Sunday in a month. A whopping ten members of our congregation (age 15-60+) volunteered their time to set up, serve, and clean up, and another fourteen members brought food items. Every slot on our sign-up form was filled. We fed 110 meals to about 70 people, so everyone who wanted was able to have seconds (and even a few thirds).
Please mark your calendars for the next fifth Sunday dinner on January 30th. Please watch eShalom in the meantime for opportunities to sponsor families through the VAC this holiday season.
The Tikkun Olam committee is meeting at 6 pm on Monday, November 8th in the sanctuary. All are welcome.
Congregants are welcome to bring their pumpkins and their autumn leaves (no branches or debris, please) to the Interfaith Garden for us to compost. Leaves can be left in their bags next to compost bins. Pumpkins should be placed in the first bin only, closest to the big tool container.

CBS helps True North feed the women and children in their shelter by supplying desserts/snacks once a week. The residents make their own meals and this helps them greatly!
If you can help, plan for around 40-50 people. Drop off the goodies between 9 am and 7pm Thursday through Saturday for the week you sign up. Since they keep their address private (due to the nature of their services) please call ahead and let them know you are on your way: 573.875.1370. Ring the doorbell and tell the staff that you are from CBS, dropping off food for the residents.
Please label your treats with any allergens – dairy, nuts, etc., in case a resident has an allergy.
