Many thanks to all those who brought food and/or toys to the Hanukkah party in exchange for raffle tickets, and to those who bid on Kelly Durante’s donated paintings. The food and auction proceeds will go to the Food Bank of Central and NE Missouri and the toys will be delivered to True North this week..

Please help us add more to the food barrels (one in the vestibule and one in the farmhouse) and the tzedakah box marked “Food Bank” until they are picked up at the end of Hanukkah. Cash donations to the Food Bank are doubled through December, so the $370 raised from the two winning bids will result in 2,220 meals for our hungry neighbors.

Our next Tikkun Olam event will be Souper Sunday on February 8th.
During winter weather, some of our Columbia neighbors need winter coats, gloves, scarves and stocking caps, as well as blankets and sleeping bags to stay warm.

Please take a minute to check your closets for winter coats, etc. that you can spare. A collection coat rack and a box are located in the foyer of the sanctuary building.
Dear CBS Community,

Last month, the CBS Board established the Rabbinic and Cantorial Leadership Fund as part of the Future 50 Campaign. The full text of the case for the broad campaign and for the specific leadership fund (link) lays out for the whole congregation what our financial needs are if we want to be competitive in our rabbinic leadership hiring process.

In short, we hope to gain commitments over three years (starting next July) totaling $225,000 toward that leadership fund. We have met nearly 25% of our goal, but it’s imperative that a large portion of the congregation support this effort. We don’t need the actual money yet; we are just asking for commitments. Still, it’s important that we gain a sense of how strongly our membership supports hiring a full-time rabbi or cantor.

Originally, we set a deadline of January 31, 2026, for these pledges. The timeline for hiring has shifted, however, so we would greatly appreciate having your commitments in writing by the end of December.

We urge you to read the full case statement (but please substitute December 31, 2025 with January 31, 2026!), and either contact Janna Lancaster or Tim Parshall or download, fill out and submit the Future 50 Campaign pledge form (link).

Thanks for your commitment to ensuring the CBS can thrive for another 50 years and many more.
