I wonder what you think of this statement I came across in this article, Why I’m Hopeful About America’s Jewish Community – and You Should Be Too (tap Algemeiner.com).
“What October 7, 2023 did — alongside everything devastating it did — was light a fire under a community that had, in some corners, confused comfort with safety and philanthropy with engagement.”
The opinion piece goes on to note that in Jewish communities, people started showing up that hadn’t been very active. The piece is meant to be a hopeful look at Jewish communities since October 7th amidst the turmoil of rising antisemitism. To be hopeful in these times of tragedy is a return to faith and a leap of faith.
The enduring message here, that is as much a kick in the pants than anything, is that coming out and showing up is as important if not more than simply “pledging” support. When you show up for regular services or events, each one of you adds an exponential amount of energy and spirit that is immeasurable.
Truth be told, you have been coming and I appreciate you for being there. Should we be unable to connect when you do come, come again. Already some of you have reached out to schedule walks with me, and I am grateful. If coffee is more your jam, let’s do that. I look forward to continuing to get to know you of these next few months and the years to come. In the meanwhile, let us to choose to look to the future with hope in our hearts as we navigate the coarse world we had hoped we’d left behind.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
The CBS Tikkun Olam committee is collecting school supplies for kids in need and will distribute them through the Voluntary Action Center and other local partner organizations.
Bring donations to the large plastic tub marked School Supply Drive in the farmhouse vestibule. Kids need pencils, crayons, scissors, markers, backpacks, folders and more. Tap here to see school supply lists by grade on the CPS web site.
Also please note that school supplies purchased August 7th through 9th are tax free.
We’ll collect these items through August 16th, and
